FAQ - Why do some parents see an option to "remove" their child and others don't?
The decision to display "remove" or "no longer a current" is determined based on whether the student record has been used before.
The "remove" button is presented if the student has not been associated with any forms that have been submitted. Once a student is associated with a form or order, they're on the record permanently, because otherwise they would cause other data to become invalid. The "remove" button is there to fix mistakes (i accidentally created a second Sally).
If the student has been associated with any forms that have been submitted, parents will only have the option to make them Inactive. Moving them to inactive (by clicking the "no longer a current" button) will remove them from the directory and everywhere else meaningful.
