Newsletter Tips & Tricks

Newsletter Tips & Tricks

Can I continue to use the newsletters I previously created?

Yes! All previous newsletters that were created using the "old" tools will still be available to view under the draft, scheduled and sent tabs and can be duplicated through December 31st. Beginning January 1, 2021, they will only be available to view. The same applies to Archived newsletters as well.
  1. Newsletters in Draft Mode that were originally created using the older version of the editor will be denoted with an asterisk next to their subject name.
Beginning July 1, 2020, all NEW newsletters will need to be created using the new editing tools and templates.

How do you get the header image to fill the entire width of the newsletter?

  1. Select the header image block to edit.
  2. Go to the Design tab and scroll all the way to the bottom.
  3. Set the Margins to "edge-to-edge."
  4. If you want to set this globally for all single Image Blocks, use the Block Design tab.

How do you decrease the size of the images in a Multi-Image Block?

The default size of each image in a multi-image block is 100%.
For example, if you have 3 images and select each one to display as 1/3 of the block (33% - 33% - 33%), each individual image will fill 100% of it's allotted 33% space.
If your images seem too large, you can reduce their size on the Block Design tab. This can be done globally for all multi-image blocks or for an individual multi-image block.

How do you link to a website?

Image Blocks

If the block has an image you will click "Advanced" where you select the image and use the checkbox to make it "clickable." Use the drop down to select where you'd like the link to go.

Button Blocks

If it is a button block, there is a field for "Link to" where you can use the drop down and select "web address."

Text Blocks

If it is a text block you can use the chain icon to link text to any URL or use the search icon to link within your site.

How do you make a new newsletter using a template we created?

To use a template to create a new newsletter, use the "create newsletter" button. Once you enter a subject and "continue" you will be presented with all of the template choices available for your organization.

Adding a Parent Name to a Newsletter

You can give your newsletters a more personalized feel by adding a macro to include parent names. This can be done in the editor for any text block. In the editor toolbar, use the "{{ }}" symbol to add the macro.

Once the macro is added the process works like this:
the system first looks for a contact record in the organization with the email address of the recipient, and uses the appropriate first/last name if found. If no contact record is found, the system looks for a user account with that email address, and if found uses the first/last name from the user account. If both fail, the macro is replaced with the email address of the recipient.
