Setting Membership Toolkit as your Website Server

Setting Membership Toolkit as your Website Server

These are instructions for the "old" way before we were able to provide DNS Hosting. If a customer is not using our Hosting services, these are directions you may need.

Setting Membership Toolkit as Your Website Server

In order for Membership Toolkit to respond correctly to requests for your domain and website you will need to:
  1. Point your DNS servers to our server.
  2. Let us know the domains for which we should answer requests.
You must have access to edit your DNS Zone File in order update this information. The following steps are how you would accomplish this with GoDaddy's servers, but will be very similar for other domain registrars and DNS servers.

These steps are applicable if your domain is registered with GoDaddy. If your domain is registered with another registrar, you will need to edit the Nameservers and DNS entries with that host.

Instructions for pointing your website address to the Membership Toolkit server and your Membership Toolkit website:

Step 1
  • Log In to your GoDaddy Account.
  • Select the "DNS" button for your Domain.

Step 2
  • On the DNS Management screen you will see a list of Records.
  • If you have a Record that is Type = A and Name = www, select the Editing Tool and delete the Record.

  • If you do NOT have a Record that is Type = A and Name = www, look for a Record that is Type = CNAME and Name = www.
  • Select the Editing Tool to edit the Record.

  • Change the "Points to" field from "@" to your Membership Toolkit URL. (myptawebsite.membershiptoolkit.com)
  • Be careful to avoid typos.
  • For the "TTL" field, we recommend "1/2 hour."
  • Save.

Step 3
  • If you do NOT have a Record that is Type = CNAME and Name = www, you will need to add a new CNAME Record by clicking "ADD" at the bottom of the list of Records.
  • Type = CNAME
  • Host = www
  • Points to = your Membership Toolkit URL. (myptawebsite.membershiptoolkit.com) Be careful to avoid typos!
  • TTL = 1/2 Hour
  • Save

Step 4 - Forwarding
  • Scroll down the page to find the box in the lower right that says "Forwarding."
  • Select "ADD."

  • Forward To: Select https:// and enter your Membership Toolkit URL. (myptawebsite.membershiptoolkit.com) Be careful to avoid typos!
  • Forward Type: Permanent
  • Settings: Forward Only (If you have the option for Masking, it should NOT be turned on)
  • Be sure to check the box to Update Nameservers and DNS Settings.
  • Save.

Step 5 - Check Your Records

Step 6 - Let us know the domains for which we should answer requests.
Please open a ticket through our help desk and let us know all domain names that should send users to your Membership Toolkit website.
