Connecting Students in Multiple Households

When a student has multiple households and each parent has a separate account within your database, this causes the student to appear twice in the Student List on the Dashboard and in the Online Directory.





There is a way to connect these students to both households so they only appear once in the Directory and Directory Reports.

This is NOT intended as a way to combine duplicate records. This is only for situations where the student lives in two separate households. (Such as the mother and father are divorced and don't want to share an account.)

How to Connect Student Records:


  1. Go to the Search box on the Dashboard and find the Preferred student record.
  2. The Preferred record is the listing that will appear first in the Directory and Reports.
  3. Whenever you initiate the connection, the contact record you are initiating the connection FROM becomes the Preferred Record.
How to decide which record should be preferred?
  1. Choose the household where the student spends the most time.
  2. Choose the household who initiated the connection request.
  3. Choose the household who created their contact record first.

At the bottom of the contact record under Students, select the button for "Connect."



The system will search and find all other records associated with the particular student.
  1. Use the checkbox to select the record you want to connect the student to.
  2. Then choose "connect."


An icon will appear indicating the preferred record along with a link to the connected record. You can disconnect the records by using the red "disconnect" button found on either record.



Once the student records have been connected, the student will still appear twice in the People > Student List. But, there will be arrows next to their name indicating there is a connected record.



Also Note:
  1. Connected students will still be listed twice in the excel download of the Student List.
  2. Connected Students will not present in Personalized Fundraising Campaigns - they will still present twice.

The Online Directory and the Directory Reports will only present one combined listing for the student.
This applies only:
  1. when the Directory is sorted by students.
  2. for Printed Directory Reports that are pulled by student (not the family) such as the Column Reports, Student Rosters, and Student Listing.
